About us

Amid the frenetic changes shaking our city — and with many of our institutions under threat — I cannot think of a better time to bring back the Gazette's historic logo to the pages of this newspaper and our website.

This change is more than symbolic, and serves as a powerful reminder that although the journalism of today is different than in generations past — and even though we tell stories using digital tools that would never have been imaginable in the 18th century — our high standards and promise to seek the truth remain the same.

Leading a newsroom in a time of disruption can be challenging. I often look to the past for inspiration by reading the history of the tremendous impact the Gazette has always had on Montreal. Lately, though, I haven't had to look very far back at all. Recent weeks have brought renewed language tensions, the future of our universities hanging in the balance, and a war in the Middle East that has reverberated in the communities of many of our readers.

Throughout it all, I take enormous pride in the calibre of the trusted journalism we practice every day, ensuring our readers are better informed and holding our politicians to account.

Consider this revival of our logo a renewed commitment to serving you. To be here, to amplify Montreal's English-speaking voices and to provide a critical window into what our lawmakers are thinking — all of this so essential to our democracy.

Our word to you: The Gazette will continue to report the truth in changing times.
